Freedom Caucus Rep. Eli Crane has indicated his support for filing a Motion to Vacate against Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and removing him from the speaker’s chair, as opposition to McCarthy among House conservatives reaches a boiling point.
Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) indicated his support for an anti-Kevin McCarthy Motion to Vacate by reposting to X a recent floor speech made by his fellow Freedom Caucus Rep. Matt Gaetz, in which Gaetz openly threatened to kickstart McCarthy’s removal should he continue refusing to live up to the promises that made him speaker in the first place.
In the video, Gaetz rattled off a number of points that Kevin McCarthy agreed to in order to finally be elected Speaker of the House – all points that he has failed to follow through on.
“No continuing resolutions, individual spending bills or bust, votes on balanced budgets and term limits, subpoenas for Hunter Biden and the members of the Biden Family who’ve been drifting off of this country, and the impeachment for Joe Biden that he so richly deserves,” Gaetz said in the floor speech.
“Do these things, or face a motion to vacate the chair.”
In sharing the Gaetz floor speech, Rep. Crane quoted his next line, taking a shot at the 15 rounds of voting that it took Kevin McCarthy to win the speakership.
“A motion to vacate might not pass at first, but it might before the 15th vote,” the quote reads, with Rep. Crane adding a fire and fist emoji.

Rep. Crane’s indication that he’d support filing a Motion to Vacate against Kevin McCarthy comes as a number of Freedom Caucus members, who offered up a great deal of resistance to McCarthy’s speakership campaign in the first place, indicate the same.
Earlier today, Rep. Bob Good joined the John Fredericks Show where he backed the sentiments of Gaetz’s floor speech, adding that Kevin McCarthy is “out of compliance” with the conditions that got him elected Speaker of the House earlier this year.
