X community notes have busted the widespread myth relentlessly promoted by the Israel lobby that Christians are ordered by God to “stand with” the modern-day nation-state of Israel.
The X community notes pushing back on claims that Christians are disobeying God if they do not support the modern country of Israel, which was not founded until 1948, appear on a post from Terror Alarm; a news account run by an AI system that’s apparently in staunch support of the Israeli cause.
“Standing with Israel is a Biblical mandate for Christians”, the Terror Alarm account claimed in the post, which was originally made on August 25th, before the war with Hamas began, adding in the hashtag “#ShabbatShalom” and an (AI-generated?) photograph of a scantily-clad young woman wearing Israeli military gear and holding a handgun.
“There is no verse in the Bible that instructs Christians to support the modern state of Israel,” the community notes attached to the post read.
“In Romans 10:12, scripture says, ‘there is no difference between Jew and Gentile’ now that Christ Jesus has instituted the new covenant for believers,” the notes conclude above a web link to BibleHub.com.
Christian support, and American support in general, of Israel has become a hot-button issue in recent weeks, after Hamas terror attacks on October 7th kicked off a renewed conflict in Gaza, where Israel is preparing for a full-scale ground invasion as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejects calls for a cease-fire.
Naturally, the conflict has led to widespread calls for immediate and massive support from the American taxpayer. Claims that Christians are Biblically ordered to support Israel often form a key component of pro-aid arguments.

In a matter of just a few weeks, as a result of nearly constant Israeli airstrikes on the densely populated Gaza Strip, approximately 3,000 Palestinian children (and over 4,000 adult civilians) have reportedly been killed.
This is in addition to the more than 1,400 Israelis reported dead and over 200 reported hostage after Hamas launched their initial attacks.

The conflict has also led to crackdowns on free speech in the United States, where Jewish groups on college campuses and elsewhere are calling for the stifling of speech that goes against Israel’s war effort or in support of Palestinians. Notably, this crackdown has been bi-partisan, with Republicans, in many cases, taking the lead and attempting to equate concern for Palestinian civilians with support for Hamas terrorists.
