EXCLUSIVE: Youngkin’s War Chest Shuns Conservatives Ahead of VA Elections

Last Updated on November 2, 2023

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Spirit of Virginia PAC is freezing out conservative candidates in the state’s 2023 elections, excluding them from the massive cash infusions sent to other campaigns in a situation that resembles ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s blackballing of America First candidates in the 2022 midterms.

Governor Youngkin’s Spirit of Virginia PAC, which has raised over $26 million since 2021 with the help of several mega-donors, has excluded select Republican State Senate candidates, as well as some Republican-endorsed candidates for Sheriff, from the hefty donations that it’s thrown around the rest of the state GOP’s 2023 field.

The shunning of entire districts and campaigns comes as the balance of Virginia’s House of Delegates and State Senate hang in the balance, with every seat in each chamber up for grabs on November 7th, though early voting has already started. It also comes as Democrats ramp up their statewide efforts in the final laps of the race, blitzing social media and TV ad breaks with campaign propaganda.

Led by GOP Senate nominee from the 11th District Philip Hamilton, a group of the candidates abandoned by Youngkin’s political machine has written a letter to the Governor, imploring him to follow through with his repeated promises to support the GOP field and his stated goal of capturing a majority in the State Senate, while holding onto one in the House of Delegates.

Practically speaking, Youngkin’s entire purported agenda is at stake in 2023, as he is limited to one term as Governor and has been hamstrung by a Democrat-controlled Senate since taking office.

“Last week I emailed and mailed a letter, which was signed by four other Virginia Senate candidates, calling on Governor Glenn Youngkin to financially support all Republican nominees,” Hamilton told National File. “We have four additional Republican Senate candidates [not being supported by Youngkin] who chose not to sign onto the letter that I drafted.”

“Governor Youngkin has given several speeches about the need the need to flip the Senate,” Hamilton went on. “If Governor Youngkin was indeed serious about this goal he would be giving money to Tony Goodwin, who is running against Louise Lucas, the Governor’s largest nemesis in the Senate who has been bragging about throwing away his bills that she helps defeat.”

“He would be financially supporting Julie Spivey Perry, whose opponent Stella Pekarsky illegally called Child Protective Services against her simply because she is a public school teacher with conservative views,” Hamilton told National File.

Furthermore, Hamilton said that if Youngkin were serious, “he’d be supporting my race, which is supported by Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Richard Anderson, former Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Vance Wilkins, Congressman Bob Good, and many other conservative community leaders.”

“As we approach the last days of the 2023 election, I hope that Governor Youngkin will have a change of heart and financially support all Republican nominees for Virginia Senate!” Hamilton added.

Youngkin Letter

Despite Hamilton and the letter’s signatories sending it to Governor Youngkin by both traditional mail and email, they’ve received no response, aside from an automated one sent from the Governor’s email address.

Additionally, National File has received no response from Governor Youngkin when contacting his office for comment on both the shunning of conservative Republicans and the mutilation of children in his home state.

Though Youngkin’s office once frequently responded to this publication’s requests for comment, that subsided after National File covered outrage from parent groups over Youngkin’s failure to protect children from the trans lobby, and their willingness to speak to National File (an independent media outlet) now appears nonexistent due to this publication’s refusal to toe the party line.
